Unless a buyer for Hummer materializes in the next few months, General Motors will continue to wind-down its environmental group dart board. The slow death of Hummer has actually been in process since before The General announced that the sale of the brand to China’s Sichuan Tengzhong Heavy Industrial Machinery fell through, as the company’s Shreveport, LA facility stopped making H3 and H3T models in January.

But while Shreveport has been down for two months, it looks like the plant could dust off the H3 tooling to fill one more big order. Brandcentric site Hummerguy.net is reporting that GM is ramping up production of the H3 from April 12 to May 13 to fill a 849 unit order. The General reportedly didn’t announce the purchaser of the reported mega Hummer order, but the Detroit, MI-based automaker did say that the order was not related to the brand’s wind-down or sale.

We’re thinking this news won’t stop Hummer from off-roading into the sunset, but it does at least prove that there are still people that like Hummers. Now all GM needs is a Hummer lover with a spare $150 million laying around the compound to step up and buy the withering brand.

The HUMMER H3 Street is designed to appeal to urban buyers with an interest in a customized appearance, while delivering the brand’s trademark iconic bold design and unmatched off-road personality. The Street is powered by the same engine that powers the H3, the Vortec 3500 3.5L inline five-cylinder. The 3.5L generates 220 horsepower (164 kw) at 5600 rpm and 225 lb.-ft. of torque (305 Nm) at 2800 rpm. It also features an independent SLA torsion bar in front and a Hotchkiss design multi-leaf rear suspension like the H3, as well as electro-hydraulic power 4-wheel disc, 4-wheel anti-lock brakes.

The H3 GT Alpha’s power and strength is highlighted by its exclusive GT design. Its look is customized, turning the standard Hummer SUV into a truly unique specimen. With racing stripes in any available color, body kits in the car’s chosen color, and black tinted windows, the H3 GT Alpha exemplifies both an extravagant and sporty character. Most impressive is the SUV’s outer
appearance boasting 23 inch alloy wheels and 305/35- 23 size tires. Alternatively, the vehicle can be equipped with 24 inch wheels and 305/35-24 size tires.

A cinematic atmosphere in the rear

The interior of the H3 GT Alpha is pure luxury with Carbondesign applications and comfortable leather seats. A multimedia system, including both a navigation and sound system ensures a relaxing ride. The cinematic atmosphere provides passengers pure travel enjoyment. Each headrest has an integrated display screen with a personal DVD player.

Improved fuel efficiency using natural gas

For those who are concerned about fuel efficiency and emissions there is the option of converting to the more economical natural gas solution. The H3 Alpha and all other US cars from GeigerCars.de can be equipped with an environmentally friendly natural gas system.

Once installed, total carbon dioxide emissions can be reduced by up to 20% and soot particle emission can be reduced entirely. This not only protects the environment but also your pocketbook: 40 Euro and the tank is full! The 75 liter tank has been installed in the rear undercarriage in such a space saving manner that the entire floor space remains unaltered. The Hummer H3 Alpha also reaches its complete performance power when tanking natural gas.

The 2007 H3x, designed to appeal to buyers with an interest in a customized appearance, injects new energy into the HUMMER lineup, while delivering the brand’s trademark iconic bold design and unmatched off-road prowess.

“The H3x enables buyers to enjoy the appearance of a personalized, accessorized truck available directly from the factory,” said Susan Docherty, HUMMER general manager. “It’s intended for those who want to make a personal style statement and differentiate themselves from other H3 owners.”

The H3x begins with an H3 equipped with the Luxury package, chrome tube steps, chrome appearance package and chrome fuel door. The package also includes a body-color grille and spare tire cover, unique tires, wheels and center cap, and a brush guard. The interior features embroidered headrests.

Consumers can further personalize their H3x with any of the H3′s eight exterior colors and three leather interiors. The model is scheduled to arrive in dealerships in late summer of 2006. It will be available only in the United States and Canada.

The midsize H3s iconic HUMMER style and unparalleled off-road capability have earned it a prominent position in the growing HUMMER legacy, and extend the brand™s passionate following by making it accessible to a broader range of owners. For 2007, H3 receives a new engine: the Vortec 3.7L I-5 with dual overhead cams and variable valve timing. This inline five-cylinder engine offers an excellent combination of power and efficiency, delivering 242 horsepower (180 kW) at 5600 rpm* and 242 lb.-ft. of torque (328 Nm) at 4600 rpm. Unparalleled capability The H3 packs trademark HUMMER capability into a midsize package. Compared to the H2, the H3 is 16.9 inches (429 mm) shorter in length, 6 inches (152 mm) shorter in height and 6.5 inches (165 mm) narrower. Roughly the same length as a midsize family sedan, H3 comfortably navigates city traffic and fits nicely in parking garages. Like all HUMMERS, the H3 delivers exceptional rock crawling and climbing performance. The H3 was engineered for off-road leadership among midsize SUVs. The heart of this capability is its electronically controlled four-wheel drive system. The system features traction control, underbody shielding, an optional rear locking differential and StabiliTrak stability control. H3 offers two tire packages, a Goodyear 32-inch, all-terrain tire and Bridgestone 33-inch off-road tire, both larger than those found on any other midsize SUV. Also available is a specific off-road tire for the H3X, an 18-inch 265/65R tire. Among its off-road credentials, the H3 can ford 16 inches (407 mm) of water at 20 mph or 24-inch (610 mm) streams at a 5-mph pace, climb 16-inch (407 mm) vertical steps and rocks, make its way through deep sand and race easily over sandy surfaces.

Arriving in dealerships in early 2005, the H1 Alpha delivers more power, more torque, and enhanced on- and off-road capability, with significantly improved fuel economy. GM’s award-winning Duramax 6600 (6.6-liter) turbo-diesel engine and Allison 1000 five-speed automatic transmission give the H1 Alpha dramatic performance improvements and add to the H1’s legendary off-road capabilities.

H1 Alpha is the first in HUMMER’s new performance series. “Alpha represents HUMMER performance taken to its ultimate extension,” said Susan Docherty, HUMMER general manager. “That means improving HUMMER’s already-unmatched off-road capability, along with enhancements to fuel efficiency and driving comfort on the road. As the original HUMMER, the H1 is the perfect vehicle to mark the start of the Alpha series.”

As was the case for previous H1s, the 2006 H1 Alpha will be offered in both Open Top and Wagon models. The Duramax 6600 replaces the previous 6.5-liter Optimizer Turbo-Diesel, which will continue on as the power plant for the military HUMVEE, the vehicle on which the H1 is based. All commercial H1s produced for the 2006 model year will be H1 Alpha models. H1s used for fleet sales will use the Optimizer engine.

H1 Alpha marks another important aspect of HUMMER’s ongoing growth, as the brand introduces new models and makes significant improvements to existing models. The H2 SUT, a new version of the H2 featuring a pickup-style cargo bed, began sales in the summer of 2004. The all-new H3, packing authentic HUMMER design and capability into a smaller and more fuel-efficient vehicle, arrives at dealerships in the spring of 2005.

The expanded opening provides a nostalgic, safari-style experience in a thoroughly modern midsize SUV. The look and fun factor are classic, but the ease of operation, durability and weather resistance are strictly contemporary. Black chrome finish on the numerous H3 Chrome Appearance Package items available from HUMMER Accessories offsets the sparkling silver paint. Inside, the primary upholstery material is Townsend lambskin leather with Gatsby Green accent stitching.

“HUMMER has global appeal. European customers have already demonstrated a high level of acceptance of the HUMMER H2 due to its unparalleled off-road capabilities and iconic design,” said Susan Docherty, general manager of HUMMER who oversees the brand in the U.S. and abroad. “We expect the H3 to make the HUMMER brand even more approachable and accessible to a wider array of European consumers.”Initially the H3 for Europe will be offered in a U.S.-built left-hand-drive configuration with a Vortec 3.5L inline five-cylinder engine, rated at 220 hp (164 kW). As part of HUMMER’s growth plan, a global version of the H3 with added features and content aimed at markets outside North America will go into production in GM’s plant in Struandale, South Africa in late-2006. Those models will later offer both right-hand drive and an optional diesel engine.

DETROIT — HUMMER Division and Robby Gordon Motorsports have joined together to take on the Dakar Rally, widely considered to be the most grueling off-road race in the world due to its brutal terrain and extreme environmental conditions. Gordon will lead his Team Dakar USA from behind the wheel of a HUMMER H3 race truck. His relationship with HUMMER will also include driving an H3 in the 2006 Baja 1000 and Baja 500 desert races.“Team Dakar USA’s main objective will be to prove to the world that American innovation and determination can compete on the world stage,” said Gordon. “We started planning for this just after my first Dakar Rally, where we won two stages, and I know we are prepared and ready to take on the world.”
